We are creating a luxury version of the nouns glasses for IRL use. ⌐◨-◨ We were originally given a small grant on Feb 9th to design, prototype, and manufacture glasses that maintain nounishness, while also fitting comfortably on a human face.

Progress

✅ We successfully designed, and prototyped multiple versions of the Nouns glasses (in different colors). These prototypes were essential for us to assess comfort, material quality, assess manufacturers, production costs, and general timeline.

What we learned after receiving prototypes

• Lens colors were too muted. The original lenses that we used mute the “white” part of the lens too much and don’t show enough contrast between the two-sides of the lens. We’ve discussed this with the manufacturer and have identified a new lens and have begun creating a new batch.
• Inner-frame corners are too rounded. The prototypes received the corners were much more rounded than we’d initially sketched out. Initially, the manufacturer said it wasn’t possible to make it more square, but after drilling into it we discovered it was possible after buying/arranging some custom tooling. We’ve since ordered the custom tooling and the next version is now in progress.
• Lenses base curve is currently too high. To adapt to faces, most sunglasses have a base curve that creates a “wrapping” effect. Since this is the default for most sunglasses, the manufacturer added a base curve. As a result, the glasses have a slight curve when resting on a face. We’re now making it flat in order for it look more nounish.

✅ Created a product reveal video (releasing soon)

We worked hard on making a hype reveal video for the nouns glasses. We’re not ready to release it yet, so we don’t want to share the whole thing here. But @seneca got to see a sneak peak and hopefully can, in fact, vouch for its’ hypeness.

✅ Created 25+ 3D stills which generated a ton of excitement for Nouns on Twitter.

Outside of the time iterating on the glasses, we’ve also invested some time and energy on growth. In service of getting the word out, we made lots of 3d renders/stills to get people excited about the sunglasses. Over the last ~60 days we’ve generated ~600k impressions around this content. Here are a few of the samples we made. Some of these will also be used for the website.
